The WRX you see here was modified by Interprep Performance Tuning. The focus of the project was to making select, careful changes that are effective - not just bolting on everything available. This approach not only retains the character and reliability of the car - but minimizes cost.

On the power side of the equation, the WRX has the three most critical (of five) exhaust sections modified: we installed the ScoobySport uppipe, downpipe and muffler. Additionally, we replaced the stock intercooler with an upgraded STi version. Finally, the factory ECU was remapped using EcuTek technology. Our focus was on low and midrange torque and great driveability, rather than just on making large numbers.

The results were superb. In a recent test by Sport Compact Car Magazine, even the other vendors were impressed After the car ran the quarter mile in 13.5 seconds at 101mph, you could hear remarks like: "that's the stock turbo?" "Yes, and it still has the factory cat installed".

Components
Rally Performance / Interprep Grp A Downpipe

The standard exhaust system restricts the smooth flow of gasses leaving the turbo. Once the turbo is producing full boost, the wastegate opens to control the boost level and the result is a build up of pressurized, turbulent gas in the void behind the turbo impeller.

The Downpipe provides perfect flow properties for the gasses leaving the turbo. The effect of this is a dramatic reduction in turbo lag and a car that pulls hard, all the way to the rev limiter. Because it replaces the second catalytic converter, it is a competition part.
