Racing History

Interprep's Owner/Operator Alistair Oag has talents which go beyond his expertise in building and developing racing machinery. Alistair has also established an impressive driving record.

He has been successful in many types of racing from production car racing in the early 80's when he drove to the FP Division Championship in a SAAB Sonnet to Endurance racing. Early on in his career, his considerable talents were recognized as he was named rookie of the year. Oag raced in the Volkswagen Cup from 1981 to 1986, and as he says, "It took me five years to win that championship." But win he did in 1986, and then he went on to win the SCCA Escort Endurance Championship the next year in a highly competitive Class B.

Alistair drove his first long endurance race in 1984 at the famed Longest Day of Nelson Ledges in a Porsche 944 scoring a second place finish. In 1988 he teamed with Dave Rosenblum's ICY Racing and nearly won the Firestone Firehawk Touring championship, only to be edged out by the Hacker Express in the final event of the year. For his efforts in the 1988 season Alistair won the Eastern Airlines Rising Star award given to the most outstanding driver of the year.

1989 saw Oag move to the GTO/GTU ranks missing the victory stand by only one place in his first ever GTU start at Mosport.

Through the early '90s Alistair continued to contest selected IMSA GT events including top 6 finishes in the classic Daytona24 and Sebring 12hr Enduros. 1990 also saw Alistair preparing the engines and working behind the wheel of Phoenix Racing's fleet of factory backed VW Corrados.

Engines from Interprep have powered Alistair and team mates to numerous championships including the 1992 Canadian Firehawk Championship and 1993 Canadian Endurance Road Racing Championship.
In 1994 Alistair Oag with Schmidt Racing established an incredible record of seven wins, four seconds, one third and one fourth place finish in 13 starts! Most notable was the victory at the 1994 Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal where they displayed their dominance in front of the huge Formula One race crowds.   Canadian GP Video

In the late 90's, Interprep became more focused on engineering for the automotive industry, and a for a diverse motorsports customer base racing a broad range of vehicles. However, even during this period of expansion and change for Interprep, Alistair still found time to drive. Most notably for Phoenix Racing's Mazda MX6s which won IMSA and Motorola Cup championships powered by Interprep engines.

Today's Interprep Performance Tuning has customers throughout the Americas and in many forms of racing and performance oriented motorsports. Recently Interprep tuned cars have competed in the ALMS LeMans Prototype class, Speed World Challenge, SCCA Pro Rally and SCCA National Championship racing.
